TWENTY O'CLOCK
The first hour of suffering on the Cross
Preparation for each HOUR
And for those hours that I cannot reflect on, I offer you my willingness to remember them, and I intend to consciously reflect on them whenever I have to devote time to pfulfilling their duties or sleeping.
Accept, O merciful Lord, my loving intention and make it beneficial for me and for all, as if I had effectively and sanctimoniously accomplished what I wish to do.Meanwhile, I thank You, my Jesus, that through prayer You call me to unite myself with You. And to please You even more, I take Your thoughts, Your language, Your Heart, and I intend to pray with them, merging my whole self into Your Will and Your Love. I stretch out my arms to embrace You, I lay my head on Your Heart, and I begin...
Jesus' first word
My crucified Goodness, I see You on the Cross as on a throne of triumph, at the moment when You conquer everything and all hearts and draw them so close to You that everyone feels Your superhuman strength... Nature, terrified by such a great crime, bows down humbly and waits silently for Your word to worship You and acknowledge Your supremacy. The sun, weeping, hides its light because it cannot bear Your too painful sight. Hell feels intense fear and waits in silence. So everything remains silent... Your deeply wounded Mother, your faithful companions, all are silent and petrified at the too painful sight of your, oh, so torn and deformed Humanity, and silently await your word. Your Humanity, immersed in a sea of pain amid the cruel torments of death, is so silent that there is a fear that you may die between one breath and the next... What else? Even the perfidious Jews and cruel executioners who until recently insulted You, mocked You, and called You a fraud and a criminal, as well as the evildoers who blasphemed against You, all fall silent and lose their speech. They are tormented by remorse, and if they try to hurl an insult at you, it dies on their lips.
But when I look deep inside you, I see how your love overflows and suffocates you, and you cannot contain it. Compelled by your Love, which torments you more than the pain itself, you speak with a strong and moving voice like the God that you are, raising your dying eyes to Heaven and crying out: Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do! And again you sink into silence, submerged in unparalleled pain. Crucified Jesus, how is such great love possible? Ah, after so much suffering and insults, your first word is forgiveness! You justify us before the Father for so many sins! Ah, you make this word descend into every heart that has sinned, and you are the first to grant forgiveness! But how many reject it and refuse to accept it! Your Love rages because, contrary to common sense, you want to give everyone forgiveness and a kiss of peace... At Your word, hell trembles and recognizes God in You. Nature and everyone are amazed, they recognize Your Divinity and Your unquenchable Love, and they wait in silence to see how far it reaches. And it is not only your voice that cries out, but also your Blood and your wounds cry out to every heart that has sinned: Come into my arms, for I forgive you, and the seal of forgiveness is the price of my Blood!
O my beloved Jesus, continue to repeat this word to as many sinners as there are in the world. Beg for mercy for all. Give everyone the infinite merits of your precious Blood. O good Jesus, continue to mitigate God's justice towards everyone and give grace to those who find themselves in a situation where they must forgive but do not have the strength to do so.
My beloved and crucified Jesus, during these three hours of most painful agony, you want to fulfill everything. As you remain silent on the cross, I see that you want to make amends to the Father for everything within yourself. You thank Him on behalf of everyone. You yourself make amends for everyone. You ask forgiveness for everyone and intercede for everyone, that they may never offend You again. And to implore this from the Father, you summarize your entire Life — from the first moment of your Conception to your last breath. My Jesus, infinite Love, allow me, together with You and Your grieving Mother, to summarize your entire Life.
Summary of the Life and Suffering of Jesus
My beloved Jesus, thank You for the thorns that pierced Your glorified head, for the Blood You shed from it, for the blows You received, and for the hair that was torn from You... Thank You for all the good You have done and begged for everyone, for the light and good inspirations You have given us, and for the many times You have forgiven us for the sins we have committed in our thoughts, the sins of pride, arrogance, and self-admiration. O Jesus, on behalf of everyone, I ask you for forgiveness for the many times we crowned you with thorns, for the Blood that flowed from your Most Holy Head because of our fault, and for all the times we did not respond to your inspirations. For all this pain you endured, I ask you to give us the grace to sin no more in thought. Finally, I offer you all that you suffered in your Most Holy Head, to give you all the glory that creatures would give you if they used their reason well.
I adore Your Most Holy Eyes, O Jesus, and I thank You for the tears and Blood they shed because of the cruel pricks of thorns, because of the insults, mockery, and contempt You endured throughout Your Passion. I ask Your forgiveness for those who use their sight to offend and insult You. And for the pain You suffered in Your Most Holy Eyes, I ask You to grant us the grace to never again offend You with an evil gaze. I offer You all that You suffered in Your Most Holy Eyes, to give You all the glory that creatures would give You if their gaze were directed only toward Heaven and if they looked only at You, O Jesus.
I adore Your Most Holy ears and thank You for all You suffered when the villains at Calvary deafened You with their screams and mockery. On behalf of everyone, I ask Your forgiveness for all the evil conversations we listen to. I ask You to open the ears of all people to eternal truth and to the voices of grace, and that no one may ever again offend You with their sense of hearing. I offer You all that You suffered in Your Most Holy hearing, to give You all the glory that creatures would have given You if they had used this sense in a holy way.
I adore and kiss Your Most Holy Face, O my Jesus, and I thank You for all You suffered from being spat upon, slapped, and mocked, and for every time You allowed Your enemies to trample on You. On behalf of everyone, I ask Your forgiveness for all the times we dare to offend You, and for those slaps and spits, I ask You to make Your Divinity recognized, worshiped, and praised by all. In fact, Jesus, I myself want to go around the world to unite all the voices of all creatures and transform them into acts of glory, love, and adoration. I want to bring You the hearts of all creatures so that You may bring Light, Truth, and Love to all, and so that all may feel compassion for Your Divine Person. And when You forgive everyone, I beg You, do not let anyone offend You anymore, even at the cost of my blood, if possible. Finally, I offer You all that You have suffered in Your Most Holy Face, to give You all the glory that creatures would have given You if none of them had dared to offend You.
I adore your Most Holy lips and thank you for your first cries, for the milk you sucked, for every word you uttered, for the kisses you gave your Most Holy Mother, for the food you received, for the bitterness of bile, for the burning thirst that tormented you on the cross, and for the prayers you offered to the Father. I ask your forgiveness for all the murmuring and evil and worldly conversations that creatures engage in, as well as for all the blasphemies they utter. I want to offer You Your holy conversations as reparation for their evil conversations; the mortification of Your taste as reparation for their gluttony and for all the insults they inflict on You by their improper use of language. I want to offer You everything You have suffered in Your Most Holy mouth, to give You all the glory that creatures would have given You if they had not dared to offend You with their sense of taste and abuse of language.
Oh Jesus, thank You for everything and on behalf of everyone. I raise to You a hymn of eternal and infinite thanksgiving, and I want to offer You everything You suffered in Your Most Holy Person, to give You all the glory that all creatures would give You if they adapted their lives to Yours.
Thank you, Jesus, for all that you suffered in your Most Holy shoulders, for all the blows you received, for all the wounds you allowed to be opened on your Most Holy Body, and for all the Blood you shed. On behalf of everyone, I ask Your forgiveness for all the times You are offended by illicit and unwholesome pleasures out of love for comfort. I offer You Your painful scourging to make amends for all the sins committed by every sense and for the attachment to one's own preferences, to sensual pleasures, to one's own „self” and to all natural delights. I offer you all that you have suffered on your Most Holy shoulders to give you all the glory that creatures would give you if they sought only to please you in everything and if they tried to take refuge under your divine protection.
My Jesus, I kiss Your left foot and thank You for all the steps You took in Your earthly life and for all the times You tired Your poor limbs walking in search of souls to bring them to Your Heart. I offer You all Your deeds, movements, and sufferings to make reparation for everything and for everyone. I ask Your forgiveness for those who do not have pure intentions in their actions. I unite my deeds with Yours to make them divine, and, joining them to the deeds You have done in Your Divine Will with Your Most Holy Humanity, I offer them to You to give You all the glory that creatures would give You if they acted in a holy manner and for a good purpose. I kiss, O Jesus, Your right foot and thank You for all that You have suffered and are suffering for me, especially in this hour when You hang on the cross. I thank You for the constant and painful work that the nails do in Your wounds, which are torn more and more under the weight of Your Most Holy Body. I ask Your forgiveness for all the disobedience and rebellion committed by creatures, and I offer You the pain of Your Most Holy feet as reparation for these insults, in order to give You all the glory that creatures would give You if they were subject to You in everything.
Oh my Jesus, I kiss Your left hand and thank You for all You have suffered for me, for all the times You have appeased God's justice by making atonement for everyone... I kiss Your right hand and thank You for all the good You have done and continue to do for everyone. In a special way, I thank You for the work of Creation, Redemption, and Sanctification. On behalf of everyone, I ask Your forgiveness for all the times we have failed to thank You for Your blessings, and I also ask Your forgiveness for so many actions done without pure intentions. As reparation for all these transgressions, I want to offer You all the perfection and holiness of Your deeds, to give You all the glory that creatures would give You if they reciprocated all these blessings.
Oh my Jesus, I kiss Your Most Sacred Heart and thank You for all that You have suffered, desired, and zealously pursued out of love for everyone and for each person individually. I ask Your forgiveness for so many evil desires, evil feelings, and evil inclinations, and for so many, O Jesus, who put their love for creatures above Your Love. And to give You all the glory that they have denied You, I offer You everything that Your glorified Heart has accomplished and continues to accomplish.
Thanksgiving after every HOUR
My beloved Jesus, You called me in this HOUR of Your Passion to keep You company, and I came. It seemed to me that I could hear You praying in agony and pain, making reparation, suffering, and you ask for the salvation of souls with the most moving and convincing voice. I have tried to accompany you in everything. And since I must now leave you to attend to my work, I feel obliged to to say thank you and bless you.
Yes, Jesus, I thank You a thousand times over and bless You for everything You have done and suffered for me and for everyone. I thank You and bless You for every drop of blood You shed, for every breath, for every heartbeat, for every step, word, glance, bitterness, and insult You suffered. Everything, O my Jesus, I intend to mark with my thank You and bless You. O my Jesus, make a continuous stream of thanksgiving and blessings flow to You from my whole being, so that I may draw upon myself and upon everyone the stream of Your blessings and Your graces. Oh, Jesus, hold me close to Your Heart and mark every part of my being with Your most holy hands with Your blessing, so that nothing but a constant hymn of praise to You may flow from me.
